Al Nidaa’ Hospital in Ain El-Helweh camp hosted a medical delegation from the Dominican Republic on Monday, 24/8/2020, as part of a free medical campaign coordinated by the hospital administration with the head of the mission, Dr. Ashraf Kayed, against the backdrop of the Beirut port explosion and its repercussions on the most affected people.
The team was composed of eight of the most qualified doctors in Latin American countries of different specialties: ophthalmology, orthopedics, plastic and reconstructive surgery, cardiovascular, urology, obstetrics and gynecology and dermatology. The campaign included medical consultations, laboratory tests, radiographs, ECG, echocardiograms, and various surgeries, in addition to some emergency services. These procedures were carried out with great effort by the medical delegation, and their expenses were supported by the HOPE project funded by the Björkåfrihet Foundation.
The campaign was scheduled for 5 days, starting on Monday, August 24, 2020, but in view of the wide turnout and health needs, and due to the difficult economic conditions of our people in Ein El-Hilweh camp, the campaign was extended for another 5 days until Thursday, September 3, 2020. Where doctors have seen more than 1,200 patients from Palestinian and Syrian refugees and some Lebanese citizens, and nearly 40 surgeries have been performed.
The hospital administration extend their sincere thanks and appreciation to The Dominican Republic and medical team for their efforts in alleviating the stifling economic crisis that our Palestinian people suffer from in the camps, as their presence contributed to the healing of the wounds of many difficult cases that were incurring the high costs of medical service in Lebanon.
